Gemline Circular Design Principles
At Gemline, we have embraced circular product design principles, as they are key to the concept of a circular economy. These principles focus on understanding the impact of our designs and creating products that promote longevity, prioritize reusing materials, and reduce waste. As we actively assess the carbon footprint of our products, we can identify opportunities to reduce emissions at key stages in their lifecycle, while also contributing to the broader circular economy by ensuring our products are resource-efficient, long-lasting, and recyclable at the end of life, thereby helping to close the loop on waste.
1. Designing for Longevity: Creating high-quality, durable products has always been at the heart of what we do. We take pride in designing products that people not only want to keep but that also stand the test of time, ensuring a long lifespan.
2. Designing for Low-impact Materials: Designing for low-impact materials: Designing products that use alternative inputs instead of virgin materials—such as natural materials and fibers, especially if sustainably harvested, or recycled materials—can result in a lower environmental impact compared to products made from man-made or new materials. These alternatives help reduce resource depletion, waste, and energy consumption.
3. Designing for a Healthier Ecosystem: We ensure that the materials we use do not contain PFAS, BPA , phthalates or PVC. Using cleaner materials helps to reduce pollution and contributes to a healthier ecosystem.
4. Designing for Reduced Carbon Emissions: We are actively assessing the current carbon footprint of our products. This practice will allow us to identify opportunities to reduce emissions at key stages in each product’s lifecycle by identifying opportunities for more efficient use of resources, reducing waste, and minimizing energy-intensive processes.
5. Designing for Recyclability at End of Life: By selecting packaging materials that can be easily recycled, we help ensure that waste is minimized, and valuable resources remain in circulation. While our products themselves may have long lifespans, choosing recyclable packaging supports a closed-loop system where materials are continuously reused rather than discarded. This approach helps reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and decrease the environmental impact associated with raw material production. Furthermore, designing for recyclability encourages proper disposal or participation in packaging recovery programs, facilitating the recycling process.
